Medronho is one of the symbol of Monchique traditions and its picking on the hills has passed from generation to generation.
The council of Marmelete and 1000olhos communication agency, have shot this beautiful documentary about the people picking and processing this fruit in the Serra de Monchique, the so called “garden of the Algarve” due its lush vegetation.
In addition to being a guide to the world of medronho for those visiting Marmelete, its purpose is also to invite you to meet some of the people of the borough.
Every year, around October and November, they pull up their sleeves to prepare themselves for the distillation process and to share with them the aromas, ambiences and the secrets of this deeply-rooted and ancient activity of the region.
In November 2018 and March 2019, the Medronho spirit was also the star of an innovative and inspirational project promoted by Lavrar o Mar involving local actresses and mountain communities, held in real distilleries in a cozy and intimate atmosphere. To read more about the event click here.
During the first 3 days of November 2019, the Marmelete council offered the unique chance to participate in a full day Medronho-picking together with local producers in the hills of Monchique.
